Ladder Safety Checklist
There are several aspects to making and using a
ladder safety checklist. You will certainly want to create a checklist that
deals with maintenance and inspection and this should be comprehensive enough to
ensure that by the time you are done with using the checklist that you can be
sure that ladder safety will no longer be a cause for worry.
Some of the things that need to be included in a ladder safety checklist include
the condition of the rungs and steps on the ladder. In addition, it is necessary
to check whether the metal steps have been covered with non slip material and/or
coating.
You also need to check that all the steps are clean and do not have any traces
of grease or oil on them. In addition, you need to check that all nuts and bolts
and rivets and other parts of the ladder are properly tightened and in their
proper places.
You also need to find out whether each metal part has been properly lubricated
and if you are going to be using ropes, you will need to ensure that these are
in good condition. You must also inspect the ladder to find out whether it is
free of splinters and/or any sharp edges.
You must also include in the ladder safety checklist things such as ensuring
that broken ladders have been removed from service. You also need to find out
whether wooden ladders were covered with clear preservatives.
You will also want to include in your ladder safety checklist things such as
ensuring the ladders were stored in cool and dry as well as properly ventilated
areas. Finally, be sure to check whether there is a duty rating sticker located
on one of the sides of the ladder.
In case you are using ladders that are stored horizontally, then you must check
if these are supported on the ends and in the middle. Be sure to go over such a
checklist each time before you make use of a ladder.
