Small Boat Swim Ladder Tips

Metal rung ladders can be much more uncomfortable than ladders with flat steps, this is especially the case if the people are barefoot. Often people on boats like to go swimming while on a boat in the sea or on a river. This is usually the case when the boat is small. In this case it will be quite convenient if not essential to have a small boat swim ladder on the boat. Failing to have this could make it very difficult if not impossible to get back on the boat after swimming in the sea or river.

Transform swim platform mounted ladders offer users much more flexibility. Swimmers are able to get onto and off from the boat with ease and in safety. Ladders that are permanent are telescoping or hinged so that when not in use they can be made shorter and be out of the water.

You can install a small boat swim ladder themselves. To do this you will require stainless steel bolts, stainless steel lock nuts, stainless steel washers, marine adhesive sealant, drill bits, electrical drill and an aluminum backing plate. When the boat is at rest the waterline should be measured.

This line should then be measured. When the boat is at rest there should be one step above the water level and at least two below the water level. Ladders should extend far enough so that people can comfortably get their feet on the lowest step.

The ladder should not be positioned where it will interfere in any way with the outboard motor. Line the ladder in position with the water mark. Once this is done it can then be adjusted for the right height. Marking the transom on top of the mounting hole of the ladder.

Sealant will be used back of the plate after lining the plate up with the holes. More sealant should be added prior to and after securing the bolts. A small boat swim ladder can be on the boat in next to no time and swimmers and skiers alike can enjoy water sports as they please.
