Are Step Ladders for Tall Hedge
Cutting Dangerous
Step ladders for tall hedge cutting can be
difficult to find. In hedge cutting the use of a ladder is not justified because
the risk is high. Most of the time the ground by a hedge is soft, uneven, bumpy
and sloping. For these reasons a ladder or step ladder is often not stable. When
using a ladder the hedge is not a stable surface for resting the ladder against.
In addition, most of the products used to cut hedges require two hands so you
have no way of holding onto the ladder for support. You also need to lean out
from the ladder sometimes to cut the hedge which increases the sideways pressure
on the ladder which can cause it to slip.
Step ladders for tall hedge cutting are dangerous and many accidents result
every year. The two largest dangers are the use of a flimsy domestic duty step
ladder that isn't sturdy enough to the task of trimming the hedge. Also using
the step ladder sideways to trim a hedge causes the steps to topple over in the
opposite direction.
However there are step ladders for tall hedge trimming. These are the tripod
step ladders. These step ladders have a single back leg that can be pushed into
the hedge which allows you to use the step ladder face while trimming rather
than sideways while cutting the hedge.
If you want to use the safest option when trimming your tall hedge then you
should always go with a small scaffold or a scaffold tower. These are not very
expensive and they will provide you with a large, stable base that is less
likely to topple over.
